SPEED BUT NO LUCK AT MONDELLO PARK

The championship finale weekend started perfectly for Niall and the Quinn Racing team. Qualifying on pole - gathering the extra championship point with a gap of over 0.6 seconds to his closest rival.

In race one, Niall fell foul of oil dropped by a car in the ITCC class, with whom the SEAT Supercup were sharing a track. Running wide, Niall would drop to 8th position as the Safety Car came out to clean up the mess. After a lengthy Safety Car period, the race would resume, with Niall in 8th Erik Holstein in 1st. As the race started, it was Holstein who left the track as the rain came down, and Niall was on a charge. After half a lap, Niall was 4th, with Holstein 5th, as the red flags came out again. This time, the race would not restart - and as the result was declared on count back - it was Holstein P1 and Niall P8. The championship dream was over - in two half-laps of racing…

Race two was to be a wet affair, and as the rain was coming down hard, Quinn Racing chose to be aggressive with the wet setup of the SEAT Leon. This was not to be the right decision. Niall led the pack for over half the race, he and Rod McGovern pulling a large gap over the rest of the field. As the race wore on and the track dried out Niall was unable to hold off McGovern - and finished the season on the second step of the podium - number 8 of the season.

All in all this was a bitter end to a very impressive season. 2 wins, 8 podiums, 2 poles and 3 fastest laps from 10 starts.
